(08.05.2012) Auf die Abstract-Kommission der DGG kommt in den kommenden Wochen viel Arbeit zu: Rund 500 Abstracts für den Jahreskongress der DGG vom 12. bis 15. September in Bonn sind bis Ende April eingegangen und harren jetzt der Prüfung. „Das ist ein Rekord“, freut sich der Präsident elect der DGG und Kongresspräsident Prof. Dr. Ralf-Joachim Schulz aus Köln. Die vielen eingesandten Beiträge zeigten, dass der Titel des Kongresses Programm sei: „Alternsforschung: Transnational und translational“.
(27.04.2012) „Aktuelle Probleme in der Versorgung geriatrischer Patienten“ lautet der Titel des 5. Jenaer Geriatrie-Symposiums, das am 20. Juni 2012 im Volkshaus Jena stattfindet. „Nachdem in den vergangenen Jahren jeweils einzelne Themenschwerpunkte diskutiert wurden, ist nach 5 Jahren Geriatrie in Jena die Zeit für einen Überblick zu aktuellen Problemen gekommen“, erklärt Dr. Anja Kwetkat, Komm. Direktorin und Chefärztin der Klinik für Geriatrie am Universitätsklinikum Jena. Sie wird das Symposium leiten.

(31.08.2011) Was antworten Kollegen aus Spanien, England oder den Niederlanden, wenn Sie als DGG-Mitglied Begriffe aus aktuellen Studien und Debatten wie „Alzheimer’s disease“, „physical activity“ oder „vitamin D“ nennen? Und wie entwickelt sich diese Debatte, wenn weitere Kollegen aus Australien, den USA, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Mexico oder Korea hinzustoßen? Eine Antwort wird der siebte Kongress der European Union Geriatric Medicine Society (EUGMS) liefern, der vom 28. bis 30. September in Malaga, Spanien, stattfindet. Neu in diesem Jahr: Während des Kongresses können Sie in Kleingruppen an Diskussions- oder Hands-on-Workshops teilnehmen. Die Liste mit allen Angeboten wird als Überraschung erst am ersten Kongresstag bekannt gegeben. Mehr als 600 Poster werden gezeigt, davon die etwa 60 besten präsentiert und erläutert. EUGMS 7th Congress

The EUGMS 7th Congress to be held in Málaga (Spain) from 28 to 30 Sept 2011. Building on the success of previous congresses, and being held in partnership with the Sociedad Española de Geriatría y Gerontología (SEGG) and the Sociedad Andaluza de Geriatría y Gerontología (SAGG), this promises to be the biggest European Congress dedicated to Geriatric Medicine ever held in Europe.
The theme of the Congress - New therapies for an ageing Europe - follows a line in which the EUGMS is very active, namely, promoting the right of older people to benefit from therapeutic advances. Work is under way, together with the European Medicines Agency, to improve access of older citizens to clinical research on new therapeutic substances, and a Pharmacology Working Group exists in the Society to promote the most appropriate use of drugs in this population, including the use of drugs with proven benefit to very old people.

We would suggest you take some time to browse it: you will find a wealth of discussion topics that are relevant to clinical geriatric practice, or where ongoing research may change present perspectives (physical activity, orthogeriatrics, Alzheimer’s disease, sarcopenia, vitamin D, appropriateness of drug treatments, comorbidity, end of life care, bioethical aspects), presented by international leaders. A core curriculum section will be run to update general geriatric knowledge, and some industry run satellite symposia will introduce new interventions. If your are proficient in Spanish, you may also wish to have a look to the SEGG Social and Biological section activities, run in parallel with the EUGMS Congress.
New to this Congress are workshops. These will be open to small groups (40 to 60 persons) and use case studies or a hands-on approach to improve knowledge in many areas of geriatric care. You will find a list of them in your bag, when you arrive to the Congress.
More than 600 posters will be presented in active mid-day sessions, displaying high quality research performed all around the world. Some 60 of them have been chosen, due to their highest quality and interest, for oral presentation. Abstracts will be published jointly in two journals: European Geriatric Medicine and Revista Española de Geriatría y Gerontología, the official journals of the organizing societies.
