Im Zentrum Tirols und damit auch im Zentrum der Alpen gelegen, bietet die Medizinische Universität Innsbruck beste Bedingungen sowohl für erfolgreiche Forschung, Studium und Lehre an einem attraktiven Standort. Zu den zentralen Aufgaben der Medizinischen Universität Innsbruck zählen Lehre und Ausbildung auf höchstem Standard, Forschung auf internationalem Niveau und die kontinuierliche Verbesserung von Spitzenmedizin. Die Organisationseinheiten der Med-Uni gliedern sich in einen medizinisch theoretischen Bereich, einen klinischen Bereich und in weitere (Service-) Einrichtungen. Die Kliniken sind am Tiroler Landeskrankenhaus angesiedelt, das gleichzeitig als Klinik der Medizinischen Universität Innsbruck fungiert.
Im Rahmen des Universitätsgesetzes 2002 wurde die ehemalige Medizinische Fakultät aus der Leopold-Franzens-Universität herrausgelöst und als Medizinische Universität Innsbruck zu einer eigenen Universität erhoben. Die Med-Uni ist heute mit ca. 3.000 Studierenden und etwa 1.800 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern die bedeutendste medizinische Forschungs- und Bildungseinrichtung in Westösterreich und Stammuniversität vieler Tiroler, Südtiroler und Vorarlberger StudentInnen.
