The EuGMS SIG on FALLS & FRACTURES is glad to invite you to the next OPEN meeting that will take place on 25th November 2025, 16:00 to 17:00 CET (15:00 to 16:00 UK time)
The agenda of the upcoming meeting is as follows:
SPEAKER 1: Dr Maria Bonnici (Geriatric Medicine Department, Mater Dei Hospital, Karin Grech Rehabilitation Hospital & St Vincent De Paul, Malta)
TITLE 1: "Falls and Fracture Integrated Secondary Prevention Models and Outcomes" (20 minutes, 10 minutes discussion)
BIO 1: Dr Bonnici is a geriatrician with a special interest in orthogeriatrics, osteoporosis, and osteosarcopenia. She works within the Maltese orthogeriatric and rehabilitation services and leads bone health and fragility fracture clinics focused on holistic secondary fracture prevention. Dr Bonnici serves as President of the Malta Osteoporosis Society and is an active member of the EuGMS Special Interest Group on Falls and Fractures, as well as the COST Action PROGRAMMING. She is passionate about advancing geriatric care through research, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
SPEAKER 2: Dr Tim Stuckenschneider (Department of Health Services Research, Faculty IV Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Oldenburg, Germany)
TITLE 2: "Secondary prevention of falls in the Emergency Department: Results from the SeFallED and iSeFallED projects” (20 minutes, 10 minutes discussion)
BIO 2: Dr. Stuckenschneider is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oldenburg in the Division of Geriatric Medicine. He completed a joint PhD between the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia and the German Sport University Cologne in 2020, focusing on the effects of physical fitness and exercise in older adults, particularly those with dementia and Parkinson’s disease. At Oldenburg, he leads the SeFallED and iSeFallED projects, which implement data-driven falls prevention in the emergency department by stratifying older adults according to individual risk profiles and engaging them in targeted interventions
