The EuGMS SIG Education and Training

Dear Colleagues,

The agenda of the upcoming meeting is as follows:

SPEAKER 1: Dr Mriganka Singh
TITLE 1: IMPACT-GPM: Integrating Mentored Health Services Research Training within Clinical
Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine Fellowship.

IMPACT-GPM is a pioneering introductory Health Services Research (HSR) pathway embedded within a Clinical Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine Fellowship. It aims to stimulate clinical trainees to explore their potential as HSR researchers. It integrates mentored HSR with
real-world clinical experience and hopes to shape the next generation of clinician-investigators and system-level leaders in Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine. The hands-on, mentored and structured HSR research program also provides fellows analytic support, as they formulate their research questions through the use of a curated national level dataset. IMPACT-GPM embeds fellows in an interdisciplinary team, connects them with institutional and national collaborators, and equips them with the skills to design and generate evidence. Graduates of the program will
thus be better equipped to understand HSR, evaluate published HSR, apply HSR findings to clinical practice and decide whether or not to pursue a career in HSR. This training also positions them for more effective partnerships in projects related to health system transformation by connecting real-world data enquiry with provision of value-based, patient-centered geriatrics and palliative medicine care.
